In every LECI switch specification and drawing, the most critical information labeled with the highest priority is the "Rating." This represents the safe operating range within which the product can function stably for an extended period under specific conditions.

A safety certification mark precedes these ratings, indicating that:

  1. The switch has passed testing by that specific certification body.

  2. An official test report has been issued.

  3. The corresponding certification certificate has been obtained.

LECI products may be certified for different application specifications across various agencies. For instance, the RS601D1 High-Current Series rocker switch may simultaneously feature the following certification marks and specifications:

  • UL cUL: 10GPA 125V AC / 6GPA 250V AC T105/55

  • VDE ENEC: 6(4)A 250V AC T85/55

  • TUV: 8/128A 250V AC T85/55

  • KC: 6(4)A 250V AC T85/55

  • CQC: 6A 250V AC; 6(8)A 250V AC; 8/128A 250V AC T105/55

All the above are specifications under which this switch can carry a load reliably and operate stably over time.

The alphanumeric codes following the certification marks define the switch's "General Performance" and "Temperature Resistance" under specific environments and load types.

Using the UL specification as an example, here is a breakdown of the professional terminology:

1. UL / cUL

Significance: Indicates that the switch has passed the safety certification requirements for both the United States (UL) and Canada (cUL).

2. 10GPA 125V AC and 6GPA 250V AC

GPA (General Purpose Amperes): Refers to the general-purpose rated current, equivalent to Amperage (A). For a detailed explanation of GPA, please refer to our article: "What is GPA?"

Significance: This refers to the "Load" the switch can handle. GPA is a comprehensive index certified by UL, representing the switch's stability when handling general electrical loads (including those with slight inductive or capacitive components).

Specification Interpretation:

  • Under a 125V environment (U.S. standard voltage), it can safely carry 10A.

  • Under a 250V environment (European/Industrial standard voltage), it can safely carry 6A.

3. T105/55 (Temperature Rating)

This indicates the Ambient Temperature endurance, which is crucial to the switch's lifespan and material integrity.

Specification Interpretation:

  • T105: Represents the maximum operating ambient temperature for the internal components of the switch, reaching up to 105°C.

  • /55: Represents the maximum operating ambient temperature for the external actuator (button), reaching up to 55°C. (For safety reasons, as the button is operated by human touch; temperatures exceeding 55°C may cause burns).

By integrating these three key pieces of information, we can understand a switch's electrical capacity and temperature resistance under specific voltage environments.

To determine the maximum load capacity of a switch, we look at the highest value among all its certifications, which represents the ultimate load-bearing threshold for that product.
